The jazz/hip-hop fusion collective Us3 scored a major hit in 1994 with ‘Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia),’ a song that displayed the group’s fondness for sampling classic recordings on the Blue Note label.
15 years later a’cappella singer Brook Yung of Brooklyn is hired to sing on ‘The Love of my Life’, the tenth track on Us3’s ‘Stop. Think. Run.’ album. Not long after that, I was heading off to a small boutique hotel in Camden, London with the founder of Us3, Geoff Wilkinson and Ayesha Varnard to shoot footage for the music video and later combined it with some animated typography and colour graded the video in post-production to really make it shine.
When I decided to make a video for “The Love Of My Life” I knew that I wanted to combine live footage with some nice graphics, and so I set about trawling the internet to see if I could find something similar to what I was looking for. When I stumbled upon Scott’s work and a music video for the artist D-Tox I knew immediately he was the man for the job. His work was really fresh, genuinely different, and full of ideas. It turned out he was an absolute joy to work with. The result surpassed even my expectations, capturing the romantic mood of the song perfectly, while giving it a definite edge with his graphics and editing skills, and I’m delighted to say that we already have another music video in production at the moment…
